In Florida, US President Donald Trump again claimed that his diplomacy helped stop the India-Pakistan conflict, calling it an 'honour' and saying the Pakistani prime minister credited him with saving at least 10 million lives. He described Washington's role as pivotal in defusing tensions between the two nuclear powers, saying, 'We stopped India and Pakistan from fighting, two nuclear nations.'
'In less than a year, we made eight peace deals and ended the war in Gaza. We have peace in the Middle East. Nobody thought that was going to be possible,' Trump said during a Florida event on Friday. He also asserted that Washington helped defuse tensions between India and Pakistan after a 'long night' of talks.
India has repeatedly rejected any third-party mediation in its dealings with Pakistan, and analysts caution that Trump's claims lack independent verification. Still, the former president has made the same assertion around 80 times since May last year, a pattern that critics say is more political theatre than settled diplomacy.
The remarks come as Trump highlights recent peace initiatives and casts himself as a broker of international stability, even as foreign and regional leaders offer cautious responses and call for verifiable progress rather than boasts.
Amid the chatter, observers emphasize that credible mediation requires transparent verification and official acknowledgments from Delhi and Islamabad, not just speeches on the campaign trail.
