Hyderabad Gears Up for All India Police Football Championship as DGP Reviews Plans

The Telangana Director General of Police, B. Shivadhar Reddy, arrived at the helm of preparations on Wednesday, reviewing arrangements for the 74th B.N. Mallik Memorial All India Police Football Championship to be hosted by the Telangana Police Department in Hyderabad. He presided over a meeting with senior officers to gauge progress and ensure the national-level tournament unfolds smoothly.

The championship, set to run from March 23 to April 5, will feature 53 teams from various states and central armed police forces, with an estimated 2,100 players and officials taking part. All participating teams are scheduled to arrive in Hyderabad on March 23, while the opening ceremony is slated for March 25 at 3 p.m. at the GMC Balayogi Stadium in Gachibowli.

Grounds across the city have been inspected and earmarked for competitive matches and practice sessions. Matches will be hosted at the Gachibowli Stadium and the Telangana Police Academy grounds, with select venues allocated for competition and others reserved for team practice. A number of committees have been formed to ensure smooth conduct, with special attention given to accommodation and transportation to prevent any inconvenience to teams.

The DGP also mentioned the possibility of hosting an exhibition football match as part of the event and sought insights from officers who previously visited Tripura, which hosted the 73rd edition of the All India Police Games last year. On the participation front, teams wishing to compete can apply online through the official portal of the All India Police Sports Control Board, streamlining the registration process for the national event. The championship will conclude with a closing ceremony after the final on April 5.
