In Ujjain, a mass wedding brought together 21 couples, including CM's son Abhimanyu Yadav and his bride Ishita. The ceremony was led by yoga guru Ramdev, who performed the rituals for the couples. Governor Mangubhai Patel praised the Chief Minister for setting an example of social harmony and cohesion.
The event drew couples from across society, including people from Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe backgrounds. The organisers said the mass wedding followed Sanatan traditions and aimed to cut wasteful expenditure on weddings while promoting inclusivity and community support.
Spiritual and political figures attended, with Ramdev calling such ceremonies a model for others, and Dhirendra Shastri adding that the message of the Bhagavad Gita was embodied in the gathering. The CM said the program reflected sabka saath, sabka vikas, and stressed that it should inspire influential and affluent families to back similar initiatives.
The ceremony also saw appearances by Karnataka Governor Thawar Chand Gehlot, union ministers Jyotiraditya Scindia and Durga Das Uikey, and MPs and MLAs, underscoring the wide support for the idea. The CM's decision to host a low-cost, inclusive wedding aimed to show that celebrations can be meaningful without extravagance.
For Abhimanyu and Ishita, this marked a milestone in public life, while the larger Ujjain event underscored a broader message: weddings can celebrate tradition and togetherness, while staying accessible to common people.
