The Jammu and Kashmir Police have ordered a 14-day preliminary enquiry under Section 173(3) of the BNSS into an incident from the Jammu and Kashmir Champions League, a private cricket tournament held in Jammu. The probe focuses on the actions of Furqan Ul Haq, a cricketer from south Kashmir, who was seen wearing a helmet with a Palestinian flag during a match on January 1, 2026. The inquiry aims to ascertain the facts, the player’s intent, and any possible linkages in view of the incident’s sensitivity and potential public order implications.
Footage circulating on social media showed Ul Haq wearing the helmet with the Palestine logo while taking part in the game at the ground reportedly referred to as K C Door in Muthi. Police officials indicated that the 14-day preliminary enquiry will look into the background of the individual and the context in which the symbol appeared during the private event, which began on December 29 and was not recognized by the state cricket association.
The Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association reiterated that it had no involvement with the league, describing it as a private affair outside the association’s purview. This incident comes amid broader scrutiny of privately organized leagues in the region, including the earlier collapse of the Indian Heaven Premier League (IHPL), whose organizers allegedly fled Srinagar after duping players, officials, broadcasters and hoteliers, leaving many stranded.
