Kamal Dhyani, a 25-year-old man, died after his motorcycle fell into an open pit dug for Delhi Jal Board road work in West Delhi's Janakpuri. The incident occurred near the B3B Block close to Andhra School on Professor Jogender Singh Marg on February 5. AAP Delhi chief Saurabh Bhardwaj was detained during a candle march at the site, after he live-streamed from the spot and claimed that AAP leaders had gone to the scene.
Bhardwaj alleged that police snatched candles and tore posters bearing Kamal Dhyani's name and photograph. He also claimed that friends and relatives of the victim had sought his location from the police on the night of the accident; the information was said to have been shared and later deleted, potentially delaying rescue and contributing to the fatal outcome.
Delhi Police detained Yogesh, a 23-year-old worker present at the scene who had informed the subcontractor about the accident before fleeing. He was apprehended in Firozabad, Uttar Pradesh, and will be brought to Delhi for questioning. The sub-contractor Rajesh Prajapati had already been arrested in connection with the case, with authorities seeking the contractor's custody.
The incident has sparked political tensions in Delhi, with the party staging a candle march and demanding accountability. The investigation continues as authorities work to determine safety lapses and responsibility for the tragic death.
