Samson, who was notably named 'Player of the Tournament' in the recent T20 World Cup and delivered a strong performance for Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) this year, finds himself out of the squad for the Zimbabwe series. Ashwin argued that a lack of confidence shown by the management towards in-form players could sow doubt within the squad, potentially leading players to prioritize individual milestones over high-strike-rate performances to secure their spots. “If we show a lack of confidence like that, all the other players in the team will think that they are next,” Ashwin warned, suggesting this could ultimately hurt Team India's aggressive approach.
The selectors, meanwhile, have brought in fresh faces for the Zimbabwe series, including maiden call-ups for young talents like Yash, Ashok, and Mayank Yadav, along with Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, who made his international debut in the second T20I against England.
