Drunk ASI rams SUV into bikes in Neemuch; teacher killed, son loses legs
A suspended ASI allegedly rammed his private SUV into several motorcycles in Neemuch, killing a college teacher and injuring others, including his son who later had both legs amputated.
A private Bolero crash in Neemuch left a college teacher dead and several others injured when a police officer allegedly rammed into moving and parked motorcycles late Friday night. The officer, ASI Manoj Yadav, in his 50s, was driving near Bhadbhadia village on the Neemuch-Jawad road when the collision occurred. Dasharath Singh, a 42-year-old college teacher, died at the spot, while his 10-year-old son Harshit sustained grave injuries that necessitated the amputation of both legs to save his life. Dasharath's wife Lalita and daughter Jaya were also hurt, and another motorcyclist, Bhupaal Singh, was injured as several bikes were damaged.
Yadav has since been suspended and produced in court, where he was granted bail. Authorities say medical reports are awaited to determine whether he was intoxicated at the time; family members have alleged he was drunk. Following the crash, relatives of the deceased staged protests, demanding strict action and financial compensation.
Officials, including Cantonment City Superintendent of Police Kiran Chouhan, said a case has been registered against Yadav and the incident is under investigation. The inquiry continues as investigators await medical findings and gather eyewitness accounts to establish the sequence of events and responsibility.
