An NIA court in Bengaluru sentenced Vikram Kumar alias Chota Usman to seven years' rigorous imprisonment and a ₹30,000 fine for charges tied to prison radicalisation and related offences.
A special court of the National Investigation Agency (NIA) convicted Vikram Kumar, alias Chota Usman, a key operative of the banned Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), in the 2023 Bengaluru prison radicalisation case. He was sentenced to seven years of rigorous imprisonment and fined ₹30,000, under provisions of the IPC, the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, and the Explosive Substances Act.
The court’s verdict comes amid the NIA’s intensified push to curb prison-based radicalisation and dismantle LeT’s activities in the country. The prosecution argued that the accused played a pivotal role in promoting anti-national activities from within Bengaluru's prison.
