₹500 Crore Forest University to Be Established in Uttar Pradesh

Gorakhpur will host the first forest university in Uttar Pradesh, according to Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. The institute will concentrate on the in-depth study of forests, wildlife, and environmental sciences and will be constructed on 125 acres. The final review of the university's Act draft is presently underway.

The Jatayu Conservation and Breeding Centre, where the Chief Minister first made the proposal announcement on September 6, 2024, will be close to the campus. The state budget for that year included ₹50 crore to start the project's foundation. The university will provide degree and diploma programs in fields like horticulture, forestry, agroforestry, and social forestry. Ecology, natural resources, climate change, and related topics will also be covered in the curriculum. Students will gain practical experience in forest areas and conservation zones through training modules.

An administrative building, classrooms, an auditorium, state-of-the-art labs, a sports field, and faculty housing will all be part of the campus's infrastructure. With a combined capacity of about 500 rooms, the plan also divides the hostels for male and female students.

It is anticipated that the creation of the forest university will increase biotechnology research in the state, allowing for more accurate analysis of ecosystems, wildlife, and climate change. Officials claim that the project will help develop qualified professionals for forest departments, research organisations, and conservation agencies while also strengthening scientific work in the areas of wildlife and the environment.
