President Donald Trump has once again stirred the pot in the ongoing debate surrounding artificial intelligence, publicly dismissing concerns about AI safety and the rapid pace of its development as a "hoax." This strong stance was highlighted during a surprising phone call with Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang at the All-in Summit in Los Angeles on Monday.

Trump, who has previously used his social media platform to criticize calls for slowing AI development, took his message directly to the stage. While Huang was speaking at the summit, Trump called him and was put on speakerphone. "I'm telling you, it's all a hoax," Trump reportedly stated, according to an attendee's social media post.

He further added that

The data centers are great, and they make people wealthy, and they make states wealthy.

The former president's comments come amidst a growing discussion, with figures like Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei advocating for a more cautious approach to AI development, a sentiment echoed by OpenAI's Sam Altman and SpaceX's Elon Musk. Trump, however, has characterized those worried about AI and data centers as "Revolutionaries for a Bad and Evil Cause" in posts on Truth Social.

He's also stated there's no need for additional AI regulation, suggesting that calls to slow down construction are only happening because the U.S. is leading globally.

During his call with Huang, Trump praised the construction of AI data centers, which are heavily reliant on Nvidia's graphics processing units (GPUs). He humorously remarked that data centers are the "oil of the next 20, 25 years." He also quipped about Huang's inability to put him on speaker immediately, despite leading the world's most valuable company.

This public interaction further solidifies the bond between Trump and Huang, who have appeared together previously. It also underscores the central role AI infrastructure plays in the U.S. economy, even as other policymakers push for more stringent regulation.

Trump assured Huang, "I'm with you all the way," and suggested that opposition to data center construction might be playing

right into the hands of a lot of people that don't want to see it happen,

hinting at foreign adversaries like China.

Huang agreed, stating, "We're not going to let that happen, sir."

The surreal moment was noted by Chamath Palihapitiya, a co-host of the summit, on X. While an Nvidia representative did not comment on the request for comment, Trump's bold declaration has certainly added a new, politically charged dimension to the ongoing AI discourse.
