A new three-part prequel series, titled "Call The Midwife: Sisters In Arms," is officially in production and set to air this festive season. This exciting new venture will transport viewers back to 1939, delving into the very beginnings of Nonnatus House and exploring the profound impact of the Second World War and the infamous Blitz on the dedicated nurses, midwives, and Anglican nuns who called it home.
The series promises to reveal the origins of the iconic East London convent, shedding light on the challenges faced by those committed to caring for mothers, babies, and the impoverished amidst a tumultuous period in history. The BBC has confirmed that filming is now underway, with a stellar cast assembled to bring these early days to life.
Emmy-winning actress Jenny Agutter, who portrays Sister Julienne in the original series, will lend her voice as the narrator, guiding viewers through the special episodes. Her younger counterpart will be played by Helena Wilson.
