Police in Kochi-area Kerala register a case after four Flipkart hub staff allegedly used fake orders and numbers to misappropriate 331 premium phones worth ₹1.61 crore.
In Kerala, police have registered a case in Ernakulam district after authorities say four Flipkart delivery hub staff misappropriated 331 premium mobile phones valued at about ₹1.61 crore. The devices were taken from hubs operated by Instakart Services Private Limited for Flipkart Internet Private Limited at Kanjoor, Kuruppampady, Mekkad, and Muvattupuzha. The accused — Siddique K. Aliyar, Jassim Dileep, P.A. Harris, and Mahin Noushad — were in charge of the four hubs when the alleged scheme unfolded between late August and late October.
The FIR says the men used the Flipkart app with different phone numbers and fake addresses to place orders. When the shipments reached the hubs, they allegedly reported them as missing, allowing them to keep the phones or divert them elsewhere.
The police have broken down the losses by hub: 38 devices valued at ₹18.16 lakh from Kanjoor, 87 devices worth ₹40.97 lakh from Kuruppampady, 101 devices at ₹48.66 lakh from Mekkad, and 106 devices worth ₹53.41 lakh from Muvattupuzha. Taken together, the total reaches ₹1.61 crore. The case is being pursued under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita Sections 316 (criminal breach of trust), 318 (cheating), and 319 (impersonation), along with Section 66(D) of the Information Technology Act for online cheating by impersonation.
Investigators say the probe aims to map the full modus operandi and identify any accomplices. Authorities have said they will question the accused to piece together how the scheme operated and whether more people were involved, including any links to external networks.
The incident highlights ongoing concerns about fraud in e-commerce supply chains and the need for stricter verification and monitoring at delivery hubs. As tech platforms and logistics partners tighten controls, cases like this remind shoppers and sellers alike that digital orders can carry real-world risks.
