UK's 50 most influential women spark renewed push for equality

A year after champions surged into the spotlight, The Independent publishes its annual list of the 50 most influential women in Britain to mark International Women’s Day. The aim is celebration and inspiration, not rivalry, recognizing milestones and the extraordinary contributions of campaigners fighting violence against women and girls.

Leading the list is Chloe Kelly, whose arc from setbacks to triumph after asking Manchester City to release her and joining Arsenal—then lifting them to Champions League glory—embodies the idea that quiet persistence can lead to big moments. Her story, and those of many others on the list, underline a fighting spirit that can guide both women and men toward greater equality.

The lineup includes Sarah Mullally, the Archbishop of Canterbury, and Blaise Metreweli, head of MI6, along with Rachel Reeves, the Chancellor of the Exchequer. Together they illustrate the breadth of leadership in politics, public service, sport, business and activism.
