The National Testing Agency (NTA) has implemented an extensive security and monitoring system for today's NEET-UG 2026 re-examination, following the cancellation of the May 3 test due to alleged paper leaks. This re-test is a massive undertaking, with over 22 lakh aspirants expected to participate across 5,440 centres in 551 cities across India and 14 centres abroad.
The NTA's preparations are nothing short of monumental. More than 95,000 examination rooms have been set up, each under constant surveillance. A staggering 1,38,560 CCTV cameras have been installed, providing live feeds that will be monitored virtually at national, state, and ministry levels. To combat electronic malpractice, a total of 51,311 jammers have been strategically deployed across all centres, sourced from leading electronic corporations like ECIL and BEL.
Beyond technology, human oversight is also significantly bolstered. Approximately 6,700 observers are physically present at the centres, complemented by over 100 virtual observers who will monitor CCTV footage centrally. The agency is also leveraging artificial intelligence (AI) to analyze CCTV feeds, flagging any anomalies and creating a multi-layered monitoring system designed to ensure the integrity of the examination.
Candidate verification procedures have been intensified to prevent impersonation and other irregularities. A substantial force of 38,795 frisking personnel and 48,448 biometric verification staff are on duty. The NTA has doubled its biometric manpower and integrated face authentication technology to streamline the verification process, aiming to minimize queues while ensuring thorough checks for every student.
Regional authorities are also playing a crucial role. In Tamil Nadu, over 1.4 lakh medical aspirants will undergo biometric checks and a 3-tier security protocol across 307 centres. Gujarat has deployed drones, Quick Response Teams (QRTs), and enhanced online surveillance in cities like Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar, and Vadodara, keeping paper leak suspects under close watch. These comprehensive measures underscore the NTA's commitment to conducting a fair and transparent re-examination, rebuilding trust after the previous setback.
