After navigating years of delays and significant hurdles with the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), Diljit Dosanjh's highly anticipated film, "Satluj," previously known as "Panjab 95," has finally premiered directly on ZEE5. The streaming platform announced its release on July 3, 2026, bringing this powerful story to a global audience.
Directed by Honey Trehan, the film features an impressive ensemble cast including Arjun Rampal, Kanwaljit Singh, Suvinder Vicky, and Geetika Vidya Ohlyan, alongside Dosanjh. "Satluj" delves into the life and legacy of human rights activist Jaswant Singh Khalra, an erstwhile bank manager who courageously brought to light mass disappearances and extra-judicial killings that occurred in Punjab during the tumultuous militancy era.
Kaveri Das, Business Head, Hindi ZEE5, expressed the platform's pride in the film's release. "This is a film about courage, resilience, and the fight for justice and it deserves a platform that will stand behind it with conviction," she stated. Das added that ZEE5 is honored to host "Satluj" not just for its powerful cinematic quality, but for its commitment to impactful and culturally resonant storytelling.
Director Honey Trehan shared his delight regarding the streaming release, emphasizing the long journey. "From the very beginning, our intention was to tell this story with honesty, sensitivity, and without compromise. After a long wait, audiences will finally witness our labour of love and hard work," Trehan remarked. He further highlighted that "Satluj" transcends the story of a single individual, serving as a tribute to the indomitable human spirit in the face of adversity.
Diljit Dosanjh himself spoke about his deep connection to the project. "Bhai Jaswant Singh Khalra ji's martyrdom and his contribution to humanity were the primary reasons I chose to be a part of this film," he shared. Dosanjh revealed that the script profoundly moved him, being deeply rooted in the lived experiences, struggles, and sacrifices of real people. He recognized such opportunities to be part of meaningful stories as rare and invaluable for an artist.
Produced by Ronnie Screwvala’s RSVP Movies, the film faced significant challenges, including being pulled from the Toronto International Film Festival due to the CBFC issues.
