Odisha opens two cultural festivals—the International Sand Art Festival at Chandrabhaga Beach and the Konark Festival with Odissi at the Sun Temple—featuring 140 artists from around the world, with Marine Life and Women
On Monday, the 15th International Sand Art Festival opened at Chandrabhaga Beach with breathtaking artistic displays, while the 36th Konark Festival began with an enthralling Odissi performance at the Sun Temple's outdoor auditorium. Visitors can see the best in sand artistry and classical dance during the two-day cultural extravaganza.
This year, 140 artists are taking part in the festival. Sculptors from Spain, Canada, Japan, Russia, Portugal, and Sri Lanka are joining Indian artists. This creates a strong global identity for the event. Tourists from different states in India are admiring the detailed artistry and unique themes at the festival. Each day introduces new ideas, keeping visitors interested and curious.
On the second day, the themes 'Marine Life' and 'Women Empowerment' came to life through stunning sand sculptures, earning acclaim from spectators and art lovers. The festival boosts Odisha’s cultural and artistic pride, turning the Chandrabhaga coast into a lively showcase of imagination and talent.
This five-day celebration runs from December 1 to 5, 2025. It features a charming mix of culture and creativity. Guests can enjoy amazing classical dance performances at the open-air auditorium, with the stunning Sun Temple lighting up the background. Nearby, the Chandrabhaga beach displays impressive sand art. The festival also recognizes the business success of women with a special exhibition space.
In addition, the Odisha government has started the Subhadra Shakti Mela in Konark. It includes 150 stalls run by women’s self-help groups. The fair offers a variety of handicrafts, organic produce, and locally made products. Officials say the initiative aims to highlight women-led businesses worldwide. Introduced last year, the Subhadra scheme helps women with financial support and resources to improve production, market their businesses, and achieve economic independence.
