Shamli police say a 35-year-old man confessed to killing his wife and two daughters and burying their bodies inside their home after a dispute over money and her decision to go out without wearing a burqa.
Shamli, Uttar Pradesh — A 35-year-old man was arrested for allegedly killing his wife and their two minor daughters and burying all three bodies inside their home in Garhi Daulat village, Kandla area, police said. The gruesome act came to light after Farooq’s father alerted authorities when Tahira and the girls went missing for about six days. Farooq, who worked as a cook at wedding functions, lived with Tahira (32) and their five children.
Police said the killings occurred on the night of December 10 following a heated argument over money. Tahira had reportedly left for her parental home in Nara village of Muzaffarnagar without wearing a burqa, which allegedly enraged Farooq. He allegedly shot Tahira dead and, when their daughters Afreen (14) and Sahreen (7) witnessed the murder, killed them as well, subsequently burying the bodies inside the house.
During interrogation, Farooq allegedly confessed to the crime. An excavation of the house led to the recovery of the three bodies, and investigators described the case as domestic violence and extreme brutality. Farooq’s father had grown suspicious after Tahira and the children remained missing for nearly a week, prompting the police to take him into custody and question him.
Authorities said the investigation is ongoing as they gather more details about the motive and timeline. Farooq is in custody as officers piece together what happened on that fateful night and ensure all legal procedures are followed.
