Sankranti celebrations are lighting up Visakhapatnam as schools and institutions mark the festival ahead of holidays. At Sri Krishna Vidya Mandir in Dwarakanagar, the campus exuded a rural aura with mango leaves, fresh flowers and rangolis. Children wore traditional attire and performed kolatam, while girls wore crowns and sat on lotus replicas to portray Ashta Lakshmi. The boys sported dhotis and turbans as teachers explained the cultural significance of these traditions; students also enacted the cooking of traditional sweets in a village setting. School officials and parents joined in a warm, festive mood as the event unfolded.
The Visakha Valley School hosted its Sankranthi celebrations with a lamp lighting by principal I. Eswari Prabhakar, followed by classical and folk dances depicting the eight forms of Goddess Lakshmi. Kites rose in the sky and rangoli competitions added color to the celebration. The traditional Pongali was prepared and students were blessed with Bogi Pallu, keeping the festive ritual alive.
In a community-wide celebration, the A.P. Nurses Association at King George Hospital arranged a Sankranti program at the Radiology Gallery. Nurses presented skits reflecting the festival's traditions, highlighting the shared cultural pride across different segments of Visakhapatnam. Visakhapatnam South MLA Ch. Vamsi Krishna Srinivas attended as chief guest, presenting awards to women who took part in competitions held over the prior two days. Dr. I. Vani, Superintendent of KGH, and Dr. KVSM Sandhya Devi, Principal of Andhra Medical College, were also present, lending the event broader visibility and warmth.
