Himalayan Heroics: 21 Trekkers, Porters Rescued from Uttarkashi's Icy Peaks!
Amid treacherous snowfall, helicopters bravely airlifted 21 trekkers and porters from high-altitude Himalayan passes in Uttarkashi. Follow the dramatic rescue efforts as operations continue!
In a dramatic display of resilience and coordinated effort, rescue teams successfully evacuated 21 trekkers and porters on Tuesday from the treacherous, snow-bound high reaches of Uttarakhand's Uttarkashi district. This operation is part of a larger ongoing rescue mission to bring back individuals stranded by adverse weather in the Himalayas.
The rescues on Tuesday saw eight individuals airlifted from the remote Kalindi Pass area, another eight from the challenging Jogin-I Peak, and five more from the base camp of Satopanth Peak. All those rescued were safely transported to the Harsil helipad, where they underwent immediate health checks to ensure their well-being after their harrowing experience.
While operations at Kalindi Pass and Jogin-I Peak have concluded, efforts are still underway at the Satopanth Peak base camp, demonstrating the complex nature of these high-altitude missions.
Three Army porters were also brought to Harsil by helicopter from the Vasuki Tal area.
This recent evacuation follows a significant rescue effort on Monday, where choppers managed to airlift 40 stranded trekkers to safer locations.
These included 29 individuals from the Auden's Col Pass base camp and 11 from the Kalindi Pass base camp, showcasing the scale of the challenges faced by adventurers in the region. Uttarkashi district magistrate Prashant Arya confirmed that a total of 136 people, comprising mountaineers, trekkers, and their support staff, were present in various high-altitude areas across the district.
Of these, 89 were part of formal mountaineering expeditions, with the rest being high-altitude trekkers. The administration is actively monitoring the entire operation from a Smart Control Room, ensuring seamless coordination among all involved teams.
Our priority is to safely evacuate every trekker and porter from the affected high-altitude areas,
stated District Magistrate Arya.
He assured that all necessary arrangements, from medical aid to temporary shelter, have been meticulously made at Harsil and other crucial transit points, underscoring the commitment to the safety of everyone caught in the challenging Himalayan weather.
