Wedding Dreams Shattered: Lucknow Fire Claims Engaged Couple & 13 Others

A devastating fire that engulfed a commercial building in Lucknow on Monday has tragically claimed 15 lives, including an engaged couple whose wedding preparations had just begun. Neelesh Kumar, 27, and Anamika Samant, 30, were among those who perished in the blaze, turning what was to be a joyous occasion into a profound tragedy for their families.

The couple, who had met and fallen in love while working at the animation center housed in the building, had just received their families' blessings for their upcoming marriage. Anamika's parents had traveled all the way from West Bengal last week to meet Neelesh and his family in Lucknow, with plans for a small ceremony already performed and further wedding arrangements underway. Neelesh's brother, Abhishek, recounted the joyous meeting, describing Anamika as "a very jolly girl," and mentioned that train tickets were booked for their family to visit Anamika's parents next week.

The fire broke out at a three-storey commercial building in Lucknow's Aliganj area. Officials reported that 15 people died, mostly students, and nine others were injured. Many victims found themselves trapped on the second floor while attending classes at the animation center.

For Neelesh's family, the loss is particularly heartbreaking. He was the second of three siblings, known for his hardworking and dedicated nature. Relatives shared that Neelesh’s life revolved around his job, and he was anticipating a promotion and salary hike this year, aiming to strengthen his finances before settling down with Anamika. Their shared dreams and future together were abruptly cut short by this horrific incident, leaving both families in immense grief and waiting outside the post-mortem house instead of preparing for a wedding.
