8 High Court Chief Justices Appointed: Rajasthan HC Gets New Head Amidst Stir!

President Droupadi Murmu on Saturday appointed eight judges of various High Courts as Chief Justices to different High Courts. Law and Justice Minister Arjunram Meghwal announced these appointments on social media platform X, stating they were made by the President in exercise of constitutional powers and in consultation with the Chief Justice of India.

One of the key appointments sees Justice Sanjay Kumar Agarwal of the Chhattisgarh High Court taking charge as the Chief Justice of the Rajasthan High Court.

This appointment comes at a crucial time, following a recent controversy involving Acting Chief Justice Sanjeev Prakash Sharma.

The issue gained public attention when Supreme Court judge Justice Sandeep Mehta raised concerns about Justice Sharma's conduct in a letter to Chief Justice of India Surya Kant. These allegations led to protests by lawyers in Rajasthan, though Justice Sharma has denied the charges, calling them baseless, and has submitted his response to the CJI.

Among other significant appointments, Justice Valluri Kameswar Rao of the Delhi High Court has been named Chief Justice of the Patna High Court, and Justice Ravindra V.

Ghuge of the Bombay High Court will now lead the Calcutta High Court.

Justice Ashwani Kumar Mishra of the Punjab and Haryana High Court has been elevated to Chief Justice of the same court.

Furthermore, Justice Krushna Ram Mohapatra of the Orissa High Court has been appointed Chief Justice of the Chhattisgarh High Court, while Justice Alpesh Yeshwant Kogje of the Gujarat High Court will head the Madhya Pradesh High Court. Justice Mahesh Chandra Tripathi of the Allahabad High Court is set to become Chief Justice of the Bombay High Court, and Justice Pushpendra Singh Bhati of the Rajasthan High Court has been appointed Chief Justice of the High Court of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh.
