UDF sweeps Ernakulam district panchayat: 25 of 28 seats
In Kerala's Ernakulam district, the UDF clinches 25 of 28 panchayat seats with 44.15% of votes against LDF's 37.23% and NDA's 12.78%, signaling clear dominance.
Ernakulam district’s panchayat results reveal a clear sweep by the United Democratic Front (UDF), which won 25 of the 28 seats, while the Left Democratic Front (LDF) managed only three. Across all 28 divisions, a total of 13,88,536 votes were polled. The UDF captured 44.15% of these votes (6,13,166), the LDF 37.23% (5,16,994), and the NDA 12.78% (1,77,580). The margin in many divisions hovered around 10 percentage points or more in favor of the UDF, underscoring a strong local mandate.
Among the divisions where the UDF secured victories, Moothakunnam, Karukutty, Thuravoor, Kodanad, Avoly, Pampakuda, Kumbalanghi, and Keezhmad stood out for polling over 50% of votes. Within the winning fold, Jinto John of the Congress registered the highest individual vote share at 60.53% in Thuravoor, defeating Mathews Kolenchery of the Congress (S) from that division. The UDF allies—Indian Union Muslim League, Kerala Congress, and Kerala Congress (Jacob)—also posted impressive shares in their winning seats, notably Edathala (44.30%), Neryamangalam (49.28%), and Mulanthuruthy (46.61%).
On the LDF side, Kadamakudy recorded its highest vote share for a direct CPI(M) versus BJP contest, following a technical issue that saw the Congress candidate’s nomination rejected. While the LDF did not translate statewide vote share into extended seat gains, the division-level results reflect the distinct and competitive political landscape in Ernakulam.
Overall, the results point to a decisive UDF lead in Ernakulam district, a result likely to influence broader political calculations ahead of future local and state-level contests.
