Bahamas Plane Tragedy: Bodies of 4 Family Members Found After Crash

Four family members traveling aboard a small airplane that vanished off the coast of the Bahamas were found dead Tuesday after relatives launched their own search effort. This heartbreaking discovery brings a tragic end to the search for the plane that disappeared after departing Great Harbour Cay, Bahamas, en route to Miami.

Silvia Larrieu, a family member, confirmed that relatives using private boats were instrumental in finding and recovering the bodies. The family is now working closely with the U.S.

Coast Guard to facilitate the return of their loved ones.

In a poignant statement, the family expressed profound gratitude: "We are deeply grateful to everyone who supported us, searched alongside us, and kept our family in their prayers.

The ill-fated flight on Monday morning carried Larrieu's uncle, 80-year-old Mario Lamar, his wife Lili, 79, and their two grandchildren, Sofi Sosa, 28, and Christian Sosa, 22. The family was returning to their home in Miami after spending a holiday weekend in the Bahamas. Mario Lamar was an experienced pilot with over 40 years of aviation under his belt and frequently flew to the Bahamas, where he owned a second residence in Great Harbour Cay.

Authorities were alerted after relatives grew concerned when text messages sent by Sofi Sosa, indicating they were taking off, were not followed by further communication.

An official flight plan detailing the aircraft's scheduled landing time had been logged by Mr.

Lamar.

The small, five-seater PA-34 Piper aircraft, with tail number N212ML, lost communication with air traffic control shortly after departure from Great Harbour Cay, located in the Berry Islands of the Bahamas. This tragic incident underscores the inherent risks of aviation, even for seasoned pilots, and leaves a community grieving the sudden loss of an entire family.
