Ahmedabad hosted the final as India lifted the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026 at the Narendra Modi Stadium. Samson was named Player of the Tournament after amassing 321 runs in five innings at an average of 80.25 and a strike rate close to 200.
Speaking to reporters in Thiruvananthapuram, Samson described his long bond with head coach Gautam Gambhir. He said Gauti bhai is a friend for a very long time, dating back to his Kolkata Knight Riders days and even the academy they shared. He added that the relationship has grown beyond words.
Samson's milestone also saw him surpass Virat Kohli's record of 319 runs in a single T20 World Cup edition by an Indian, a feat Kohli achieved in 2014.
Samson also revealed that he received an emotional message from Sachin Tendulkar after India sealed the title. I got a message from Sachin sir, it was very emotional, he said.
Late inclusion Mohammed Siraj was another talking point, with teammates noting that his entry into the squad played a role in keeping the momentum. India believes this victory signals a golden period for Indian cricket that may extend into future editions.
