Apple x Issey Miyake unveils a sleek knitted sleeve designed to carry your iPhone

Apple has revealed a new accessory that, to put it mildly, seems a little unexpected. Presenting the limited-edition iPhone Pocket, a 3D-knitted "ribbed open structure" created in partnership with Issey Miyake. You can wear it across your body, on your arm, or fastened to a bag. It comes with a short or long strap design.

"The design of iPhone Pocket speaks to the bond between iPhone and its user, while keeping in mind that an Apple product is designed to be universal in aesthetic and versatile in use," Miyake Design Studio design director Yoshiyuki Miyamae said in a statement.

"iPhone Pocket explores the concept of ‘the joy of wearing iPhone in your own way.'"

This Friday, November 14, the iPhone Pocket will be accessible on Apple's website. But the release is restricted not just in terms of quantity but also in terms of location. You can pick one up online from the US, France, Greater China, Italy, Japan, Singapore, South Korea, or the UK. With phone theft so high in the latter, it isn't the worst option we've seen to keep your phone secure while out and about.

Honestly, I find this collaboration fascinating. It’s rare to see two creative worlds, tech and fashion, come together so seamlessly. The design feels almost poetic, something that appeals not only to Apple loyalists but also to people who appreciate everyday luxury. But I also find it a really unnecessary thing. If your main goal is simply to protect your phone or carry it securely, there are many cheaper, practical phone sleeves and cases that do that job. For example, you can get a decent leather or silicone sleeve for a fraction of the price.

However, if your priority is practicality, protection, simplicity, or cost savings, then I would say: it is over-costly for what you get. You are paying a significant premium for the design and brand, more than for the function.
