The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has unveiled a complex and shocking trail behind the NEET-UG 2026 paper leak, exposing a nexus involving subject experts, brokers, and significant lapses by the National Testing Agency (NTA). The chargesheet, filed recently, details how confidential examination material was compromised, affecting approximately two million students nationwide.
The investigation reveals a sophisticated operation where three subject experts were allegedly instrumental in memorizing questions from the examination paper. These questions were then relayed to private brokers and operators, who further disseminated them to candidates using modern communication tools. The CBI has already arrested 13 individuals in connection with the scam, highlighting the extensive network involved.
The digital footprint of the leak is particularly revealing. WhatsApp groups were reportedly used to distribute the confidential questions, while Telegram channels served as a platform for wider sharing, allowing the paper to reach a significant number of candidates before the exam. The physical trail also includes specifics like a 'Hyundai Verna' car, believed to have been used for transporting sensitive materials, and a 'Kerala Hostel' which may have served as a contact point or a location for illicit activities related to the leak.
Crucially, the CBI chargesheet has also flagged severe operational shortcomings and security lapses at the NTA, the agency responsible for conducting the highly competitive medical entrance examination. These lapses include the absence of live CCTV monitoring in critical areas and a failure to implement proper frisking procedures for individuals handling examination materials. Such oversights created a fertile ground for the paper leak to occur, raising serious questions about the integrity and reliability of the examination process.
The ongoing probe aims to bring all perpetrators to justice and ensure such incidents are prevented in the future, restoring faith in India's competitive examination system.
