An early-morning explosion in a Bristol home left Jo Shaw, 35, dead alongside her former partner, Ryan Kelly, 41, after an intruder she knew forced entry with an explosive device, police say. Three other people, including a child, sustained minor injuries and were not hospitalised. Emergency crews arrived at Sterncourt Road in Frenchay around 06:34, with the blast occurring about 06:32 after the first report of a domestic incident at 06:17. The house appears largely intact, with one window boarded up, and investigators are working to determine exactly what happened.
Detectives are treating Shaw’s death as a homicide, based on information available at this time. The police force has referred itself to the Independent Office for Police Conduct due to prior contact with Shaw in relation to domestic incidents. Supt Matt Ebbs said specially trained officers are supporting Shaw’s family and urged respect for their privacy as the investigation continues and officers review CCTV, speak to witnesses, and piece together events.
Officials emphasise the case remains under investigation and provide no further details. The community is being urged to come forward with information if they witnessed anything near Sterncourt Road that morning.
