Indian Sailor Freed After 5 Months in Houthi Captivity Returns Home
Anilkumar Raveendran, a Kerala resident and crew member of MV Eternity C, reaches Muscat after release and is set to fly home as India thanks Oman for its role.
An Indian sailor, Anilkumar Raveendran, who was detained by Yemen's Houthi rebels since July, has been released and flown to Muscat, Oman. He is expected to travel back to India soon.
Raveendran was part of the crew of the Liberia-flagged cargo ship MV Eternity C. The vessel was attacked in the Southern Red Sea on July 7, sustaining damage and sinking two days later; four crew members were killed in the attack, and several others were held by the Houthis.
The Indian government said it had been coordinating with various parties and thanked Oman for helping secure the release. He arrived in Muscat yesterday, and the government welcomes his release.
Raveendran is a resident of Kerala; he was among the 25-member crew of MV Eternity C. The MEA stated that India welcomed his release, and the Indian embassy in Oman thanked Oman for facilitating his smooth and safe release.
This development comes as India continues to safeguard sailors and seek the safe return of its citizens amid tensions in the Red Sea and the wider Yemen conflict.
