Eternal Chief Deepinder Goyal to Step Down; Albinder Dhindsa Named Successor
Deepinder Goyal steps back as Eternal's Group CEO, with Blinkit's Albinder Dhindsa taking the helm; Goyal stays as Vice Chairman pending shareholder approval.
Eternal Ltd, formerly known as Zomato Ltd, announced that founder Deepinder Goyal will step down from his role as Group Chief Executive Officer effective 1 February. Day-to-day leadership will pass to Blinkit founder Albinder Dhindsa, with Goyal remaining on the board as Vice Chairman, subject to shareholder approval.
Goyal said the move will allow him to pursue new, higher-risk ideas that do not fit within Eternal’s scope as a listed company. He noted that the shift will let him explore ventures outside the company's risk profile while Eternal stays focused on its core businesses.
Albinder Dhindsa will assume Group CEO duties and drive execution and operating priorities. The center of gravity for operating decisions will move to Dhindsa as he leads Eternal’s combined efforts across its food delivery and quick-commerce platforms.
The transition comes as Eternal, which operates Zomato and Blinkit, reported a strong quarter. Revenue from operations rose to Rs 16,315 crore, up from Rs 5,405 crore in the year-ago quarter, while profit jumped about 73% to Rs 102 crore.
Goyal, who has guided Eternal through rapid growth and a string of strategic bets, will remain on the board as Vice Chairman, subject to shareholder approval. The leadership change signals a major shift within one of India’s most prominent consumer internet groups, with Dhindsa bringing Blinkit’s fast‑fulfillment mindset to the top leadership role.
Beyond Eternal, Goyal has pursued ambitious, futuristic projects such as LAT Aerospace and Temple, a non-invasive brain-monitoring device. He described the move as necessary to pursue ideas that are unlikely to align with the governance and risk tolerance of a public company, while giving Eternal space to stay sharply focused on its strategic path.
The company’s leadership transition underscores the evolving dynamics in India’s tech ecosystem, where founder-led ventures increasingly blend with professional management to pursue rapid scale and new business models.
