In a swift response to an embarrassing power outage that disrupted Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw's press conference in Jaipur, two officials have been suspended and another has been charge-sheeted. The incident, which occurred on June 11 at the state BJP headquarters, saw the minister addressing reporters in the dark for approximately 10 minutes as electricity supply was interrupted thrice.
The Rajasthan Rajya Vidyut Prasaran Nigam Ltd (RVPNL) has taken disciplinary action, suspending assistant engineer Vipin Verma and electrician Babu Singh, both stationed at the Heerapura sub-station, with immediate effect. Additionally, superintending engineer R P Gupta has been issued a charge-sheet, seeking an explanation for the lapse.
The power disruption was attributed to tripping at the 400 KV grid sub-station in Heerapura. The incident drew criticism from various quarters directed at both the power department and the state government. Taking serious note of the situation, Energy Minister Hiralal Nagar had promptly established a three-member committee to investigate the matter and submit a comprehensive report.
Officials confirmed that the disciplinary actions were initiated based on the inquiry report, which identified significant lapses in the handling of the power infrastructure, directly leading to the disruption during the high-profile media interaction. This swift move underscores the government's commitment to accountability and ensuring the reliability of essential services, especially during official events.
