A 44-year-old woman, Rachna Yadav, who served as the president of the local Residents’ Welfare Association, was shot in the head around 11 am on Saturday while returning from a neighbour’s meeting. She died on the spot, with investigators saying the motive and connections are being probed as a possible link to her husband’s murder last year.
Rachna Yadav was a key witness in the 2023 case, in which Vijendra Yadav was killed in Bhalswa village. Police have described the older case as being driven by enmity, with Bharat Yadav named as the main accused; five others were arrested, and Bharat Yadav remains at large as a proclaimed offender. Officials indicate the fresh killing could be an attempt to weaken the ongoing prosecution and intimidate other witnesses involved in Vijendra Yadav’s murder.
Authorities say they are re-examining all angles, including links to personal rivalries and old enmities that might have motivated the crime. Multiple teams have been formed to trace the suspect and bring him to account. Rachna Yadav, a familiar figure in the community, had hailed from Bhalswa village and was widely known for her leadership in the RWA. The investigation continues as police seek to establish a clear thread between the two killings and secure justice for the victim’s family and the wider neighborhood.
