Voter Roll Glitches: Nilekani, Zerodha Founders, CM's Mother Flagged in Bengaluru

Bengaluru is buzzing as several high-profile individuals, including Infosys co-founder Nandan Nilekani, Zerodha founders Nithin and Nikhil Kamath, and Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar's mother, Gowramma, have been flagged for discrepancies during the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter rolls.

Gowramma, the Chief Minister's mother, was flagged for a 'self-name mismatch' in the Kanakapura constituency.

Similarly, Nithin Kamath and Nikhil Kamath, along with their mother Revathi Kamath, were identified for 'parents name mismatch' in the Bengaluru South Assembly constituency.

The entire family of Nandan Nilekani, including his wife Rohini Nilekani, daughter Janhavi Nandan Nilekani, and son Nihar Nilekani, also appeared on the list, flagged as 'unmapped with last SIR (2002 rolls)'.

Responding to the situation, M. Maheshwar Rao, the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) Chief Commissioner and District Election Officer (DEO) for Bengaluru, assured the public that prominent persons and VIPs will not be inconvenienced. He stated that officials themselves would visit them to complete the required process.

This same procedure will be extended to elderly voters and persons with disabilities who might find it challenging to visit hearing centres.

Mr. Rao also announced that Additional Electoral Registration Officers and Electoral Registration Officers have been instructed to be more accessible and assist the public. A special campaign is scheduled for September 19 and 20 to help voters file claims and objections.

This includes Form 6 for inclusion, Form 8 for changes, Form 6A for overseas electors, and Form 7 for deletion.
