Adani to Invest Rs 1 Lakh Crore in Airports, Navi Mumbai Next Frontier
Adani Group unveils a bold plan to invest Rs 1 lakh crore in airports over five years as Navi Mumbai International Airport readies for commercial ops.
Adani Group plans a massive investment of ₹1 lakh crore in its airports business over the next five years, betting on sustained growth in India’s aviation sector. The move comes as Navi Mumbai International Airport is set to begin commercial operations, expanding the group’s footprint in the country’s aviation infrastructure. The first phase of NMIAL will handle about 20 million passengers annually, with plans to scale up to 90 million over time, easing capacity constraints at Mumbai’s existing facilities. The project was built at an initial cost of ₹19,650 crore and is led by NMIAL, in which the Adani Group holds a 74% stake.
The Adani portfolio already includes airports at Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Lucknow, Guwahati, Thiruvananthapuram, Jaipur and Mangaluru. The group has signaled aggressive bidding for the next round of airport privatisations, saying it intends to be “100% very aggressive” across all 11 airports up for privatisation in the upcoming cycle. This bold stance positions Adani as a dominant player in India’s evolving aviation landscape.
Beyond slots and terminals, the group is also exploring growth in maintenance, repair and operations (MRO) and a Flight Simulation Training Centre (FSTC) vertical, although details are still being finalised. If realized, these verticals could strengthen India’s aviation ecosystem by boosting efficiency, training, and aftercare services for carriers and airports alike.
Adani’s expansion underscores the crucial role private investment is playing in expanding infrastructure to meet surging air travel demand. With Navi Mumbai’s airport joining the fold and existing facilities under its umbrella, the group is betting on a long-term boost to passenger traffic, connectivity, and regional development across multiple cities.
