Nolan's 'The Odyssey' Dominates Indian Box Office, Crosses ₹129 Cr!

Christopher Nolan's epic drama "The Odyssey" continues its impressive run at the Indian box office, proving its mettle despite strong competition from new releases. On its ninth day, the film garnered a significant Rs 11.05 crore net across 4,591 shows, showcasing a remarkable 61.3% leap from its Day 8 collection of Rs 6.85 crore. This surge brings its total India net collection to a strong Rs 108.2 crore, with the overall India gross touching Rs 129.15 crore. Globally, "The Odyssey" has already amassed a staggering $368 million.

The film maintained robust audience engagement, recording an overall theatre occupancy of 45.19% across its extensive 4,591 shows. Specific timings saw even higher numbers, with evening shows hitting 51.89% and night shows peaking at 52% occupancy. In major metropolitan areas for the English version, Delhi-NCR reported 27.5% occupancy across 320 shows, while Mumbai saw 36% occupancy across 238 shows, indicating a strong urban pull for Nolan's latest masterpiece.

"The Odyssey" isn't sailing without challengers, however. It faces tough competition from actor-politician Vijay's recently released "Jana Nayagan," which has already crossed the Rs 100 crore net mark within just three days. Additionally, Ajay Devgn's "Dhamaal 4" continues to draw crowds, holding its own in its third week of release, making "The Odyssey"'s sustained success even more noteworthy.

Amidst the film's triumphant theatrical journey, director Christopher Nolan recently shared insights into the cinematic influences that have shaped his illustrious career. In a video released by the Criterion Collection, Nolan expressed his profound admiration for "The Apu Trilogy" by the legendary Indian filmmaker Satyajit Ray. "And then there’s the Apu Trilogy by Satyajit Ray, one of the greatest Indian filmmakers. The trilogy starts with Pather Panchali, which is an absolutely incredible film. It just blew my mind. I haven’t yet seen parts two and three of the trilogy, so I’m pretty excited to get this and complete the story," Nolan revealed, highlighting a surprising and heartwarming connection to Indian cinema beyond his film's box office success.
