Russia tests nuclear-powered Burevestnik: 15-hour flight and vast range claim
General confirms Burevestnik traveled 14,000 km in about 15 hours; Putin says final deployment stage to begin.
Russia has tested a new nuclear-capable, nuclear-powered cruise missile named the Burevestnik. In remarks released on Sunday (October 26, 2025), Valery Gerasimov, Chief of the General Staff of Russia's armed forces, told President Vladimir Putin that the missile travelled 14,000 km and was in the air for about 15 hours.
The 9M730 Burevestnik (Storm Petrel), dubbed the SSC-X-9 Skyfall by NATO is described by Putin as invincible to current and future missile defences, with an almost unlimited range and an unpredictable flight path. Putin, dressed in camouflage fatigues, said the crucial Burevestnik tests have now been completed and that work should start on the final stage before deploying the missiles. Putin directed drills of Russian nuclear forces as his Budapest summit with Trump is put on hold.
