Four men were arrested after bullets were fired at filmmaker Rohit Shetty's Mumbai home in the Juhu area around 12:45 a.m. on Sunday. Five men were detained earlier in Pune and brought to Mumbai, where they were remanded in police custody till February 5. Security around the residence was stepped up as investigators examined CCTV footage and collected forensic and ballistic evidence. No injuries were reported and it wasn't clear whether Shetty was at home at the time.
The initial probe points to links with Bishnoi gang member Shubham Lonkar, a Baba Siddique murder case accused, and a social media post claimed Lonkar was behind the incident. The suspects detained in Pune were identified as Aman Marote, Aditya Gayaki, Siddharth Yenpure, Samarth Pomaji, and Swapnil Sakat, all residents of Pune, and authorities say they have ties to Lonkar. The case has been registered under attempt to murder and the Arms Act, with detectives from Mumbai and Pune coordinating the inquiry.
Mumbai police say the Bishnoi gang has publicly claimed responsibility on social media, but officials are verifying the claim as part of the ongoing investigation. The incident has underscored concerns about threats to actors and filmmakers in the city and the measures needed to safeguard high-profile residences.
