Prices for petrol and diesel moved little on March 27 after the government cut excise duties, even as global crude markets stayed on edge due to the ongoing US-Iran tensions and disruptions in supply routes like the Strait of Hormuz. While the central government’s relief was meant to ease pump prices, city-by-city rates showed mixed reactions: the highest petrol price on the day was ₹107.50 in Hyderabad, while others saw only marginal shifts.
Among major cities, Delhi held steady at ₹94.77 per litre for petrol, with diesel prices also unchanged from yesterday. Bengaluru saw petrol at ₹102.96 and diesel at ₹90.99, continuing a plateau rather than a drop. Mumbai’s petrol hovered around ₹103.54 per litre, with diesel prices mirroring the stability. The changes come after Nayara Energy, a large retailer, raised petrol by ₹5.30 per litre and diesel by ₹3 per litre a day earlier, a move some analysts say reflected higher input costs that the government relief may eventually offset.
The excise cut was designed to ease costs at the pump nationwide, but the full effect depends on how quickly retailers pass on savings and how global prices move. Consumers are advised to check city-specific rates daily, as the price landscape can shift with crude prices, exchange rates, and refinery dynamics. The latest numbers illustrate a mixed picture: relief in some markets, lingering pressure in others, even as the supply chain navigates broader geopolitical tensions.
