A significant development in India's aviation sector unfolded recently as the Adani Group officially opened its captive airport in Mundra for scheduled commercial flight operations. This move marks Mundra as the ninth airport under the Adani Group's impressive portfolio and positions it to become a fully integrated, multi-modal logistics and business hub.
Commercial flights commenced on Tuesday, June 23, 2026, with Star Air, owned by Kolhapur-based Sanjay Ghodawat Group, leading the inaugural services. Passengers can now enjoy direct air connectivity between Mundra and four key destinations: Mumbai, the popular tourist spot Goa, the industrial city of Surat, and Hindon (Delhi NCR). These new routes are expected to provide crucial last-mile linkages and create an express corridor, significantly reducing travel time for trade, commerce, logistics, and tourism.
The vision for Mundra Airport extends beyond passenger travel. Large-scale cargo operations are meticulously planned to connect local producers and farmers from the region to global markets. Rakshit Shah, Executive Director of Adani Ports & SEZ, confirmed ongoing discussions regarding airlifting consignments from Mundra, highlighting a strong demand from the local community. Shah emphasized that this airport will foster a powerful synergy between the Adani Group's extensive port and burgeoning aviation operations.
Jeet Adani, Director of Adani Airports Ltd., expressed enthusiasm for the new regular flight operations, noting the excitement among Mundra residents. He reiterated the group's commitment to the aviation economy, revealing ambitious investment plans of ₹90,000 crore to ₹1 lakh crore across all their airports over the next five years. Initially, demand for flights is anticipated from stakeholders, employees, and locals who have contributed to the region's wealth, offering them convenient travel options. Additionally, the airport is poised to benefit tourists heading to Mandvi beach, enhancing regional accessibility. The Mundra Airport boasts a 1,900-meter runway, capable of accommodating a wide array of passenger and cargo aircraft, underscoring its readiness for future growth and its role in unlocking unprecedented economic potential for the Kutch region.
