In a dramatic move on her final day as Director of National Intelligence, Tulsi Gabbard has released what she describes as "never-before-seen classified documents and communications," making explosive allegations against Dr. Anthony Fauci. Gabbard claims these documents reveal that Fauci funded dangerous gain-of-function research at the Wuhan Institute of Virology, manipulated intelligence assessments regarding COVID-19's origins, and lied to Congress while under oath in 2024.
According to Gabbard's statement, posted on X alongside a video, the materials expose how Dr. Fauci allegedly funneled millions in US taxpayer dollars into risky gain-of-function research on bat coronaviruses at the Wuhan lab. This research, Gabbard asserts, is now "widely viewed as the source of the unintentional lab leak that sparked the pandemic."
The declassified documents, which reportedly resulted from a yearlong review initiated under President Trump's transparency mandate, also suggest that Fauci utilized his close ties within the intelligence community to shield himself from scrutiny. Gabbard details a scenario where Fauci played three overlapping roles, effectively creating a "cover-up." Beyond directing funds to Wuhan, he is accused of acting as a behind-the-scenes adviser, pushing the intelligence community to endorse a natural, animal-origin narrative for the virus, thereby suppressing alternative theories.
