PM Modi Unveils Massive Growth Path for India's Civil Aviation at Wings India 2026
PM Modi outlines vast growth opportunities in India's civil aviation at Wings India 2026, from 400+ airports by 2047 to expanded UDAN connectivity, inviting investors.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi urged investors to seize vast growth opportunities in India’s civil aviation at Wings India 2026 in Hyderabad, stressing policy stability and technology ambitions.
He described India as emerging as a major aviation hub, noting the world’s third-largest domestic aviation market and that airlines have placed orders for 1,500 aircraft in recent years, made possible by a long-term vision that includes expanding affordable air travel to more communities under the UDAN scheme.
The PM highlighted rapid infrastructure expansion: airports rose from 70 in 2014 to more than 160 in the last decade, with over 100 aerodromes activated. He said the transformation has shifted air travel from an exclusive club to an inclusive system and announced the next phase of UDAN to strengthen regional connectivity, alongside the expansion of sea-plane operations.
Looking ahead, Modi projected that by 2047 India could have more than 400 airports, with tourism development and improved connectivity driving demand for air travel to unprecedented levels.
Hyderabad was highlighted as a growing aviation, aerospace, and MRO hub, supported by progressive policies and strong industry participation, aligning with the government's push to build a self-reliant, globally competitive aviation sector.
