Amid Trump’s tariff offensive, PM Modi and EU leaders push for swift India-EU FTA conclusion
Leaders Modi, Costa, and von der Leyen discuss advancing the India-EU FTA and the IMEEC corridor, outline a timeline for an India-hosted summit, and reaffirm support for Ukraine peace and stronger trade ties.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke in a joint telephonic call with Antonio Costa, the President of the European Council, and Ursula von der Leyen, the President of the European Commission. The leaders reaffirmed their commitment to an early conclusion of the India-EU free trade agreement (FTA) and to implementing the IMEEC corridor.
They also discussed organizing the next India-EU summit in India at a date convenient for all, and Modi invited both leaders to visit India. The three leaders also exchanged their views on the efforts to bring an end to the ongoing Ukraine conflict.
They welcomed progress in bilateral relations in key sectors, including trade, technology, investment, innovation, sustainability, defence, security, and supply chain resilience. On the Ukraine issue, Modi reiterated India's consistent support for a peaceful resolution of the conflict and for the early restoration of peace and stability.

Jaishankar said that India would like to see its negotiations for an FTA with the European Union move to a decisive conclusion soon, speaking at a joint media briefing after talks with German foreign minister Johann Wadephul. The development follows Jaishankar's remarks a day earlier that India would like to see the EU FTA negotiations move toward a 'decisive conclusion' soon. The leaders agreed to stay in touch.
