Romell Glave clinched the men's gold, following up on Amy Hunt's success in the women's race earlier this week, marking a truly dominant performance for Team GB. Glave crossed the finish line in a blistering 10.09 seconds, just ahead of his fellow British teammate Jeremiah Azu, who secured silver seven hundredths of a second later. Germany's Owen Ansah took home the bronze medal, completing the podium.
The 26-year-old Glave entered the championship as the reigning British champion, a title he had impressively won on the very same track back in June. His masterful execution of the race cemented his status as the continent's new sprint king. His victory came a day after Amy Hunt had thrilled the crowd by storming through the field to claim her first senior title, setting the stage for Glave's complementary win.
After his triumph, Glave couldn't hide his excitement, telling the BBC, "It is domination. Total domination." A potential British clean-sweep of the men's 100m podium was unfortunately thwarted when Louie Hinchliffe had to withdraw from the final due to an injury sustained during the semi-finals. Notably, former Olympic champion Marcell Jacobs, who has been plagued by injuries since his Tokyo success, limped over the line in a disappointing seventh place, clearing the way for the dramatic British showdown.
Glave expressed immense satisfaction with his performance, stating, "It is an amazing feeling. Just the work I put in to come here and execute my race. We have been working on my start, and I was able to execute that today." He also highlighted his progression, adding, "Upgrading from a bronze medal from 2024 is an amazing feeling." In other news from the championships, local favourite Matthew Hudson-Smith successfully advanced to Wednesday night's 400m final. However, his semi-final run wasn't as dominant as anticipated, as he finished second and appeared to grimace afterwards. He later clarified that he had simply "misjudged" the race, alleviating concerns about a potential injury and assuring fans he's ready for the final.
