Sir Anthony Hopkins, the acclaimed actor known for iconic roles, has proven it's never too late to chase a lifelong passion, releasing his debut classical music album at the age of 88. While the world knows him for his compelling performances, Hopkins reveals that music was always his "first desire," a dream he has been quietly cultivating for decades.

The album, aptly titled "Life is a Dream," is scheduled for release next month through Decca Classics, marking Hopkins's first-ever record label deal. Its initial offering, the orchestral single "Bracken Road," debuted on Friday, July 10. This moving and nostalgic piece is deeply inspired by Hopkins's childhood memories of growing up in Margam, South Wales, surrounded by the picturesque farmland, meadows, and mountains of the 1940s. The work features subtle blues influences, a nod to the slow ballads of the Harry James Orchestra and Jackie Gleason.

The core piano melody of "Bracken Road" was first conceived way back in 1963, when Hopkins, then working at the Liverpool Playhouse, would improvise on an upright piano backstage before rehearsals. The single's grand orchestration features the Philharmonia Orchestra, led by the Grammy Award-winning conductor Gustavo Dudamel. Listeners will notice a delicate blend of muted trumpet, clarinet, and romantic, swooning strings, a heartfelt homage to the dignified movements found in Elgar's First Symphony.

Despite a stellar acting career spanning nearly 70 years, garnering two Oscars, four Baftas, and numerous other accolades, Hopkins has always considered himself a composer. "I've been composing music all my life," he shared in a statement. "Some of these pieces have lived with me for decades and I still find myself returning to them." The 12-track album promises to be a deeply personal collection, showcasing his profound connection to music and offering listeners a rare glimpse into another facet of this extraordinary artist's soul.
