Delhi Police have filed a detailed 973-page chargesheet against Rahul Meena, the former domestic helper accused in the horrific rape and murder of a 22-year-old daughter of a senior IRS officer. The chargesheet was presented in a city court, detailing the gruesome events that unfolded on April 22. This tragic incident in South Delhi has ignited serious concerns regarding safety within households, especially concerning domestic staff.
According to police sources, Meena, who had been dismissed in February due to financial misconduct, reportedly entered the victim's home early on the morning of April 22. He used his prior knowledge of a spare key, gaining access while the victim was alone. The young woman, an IIT graduate who was actively preparing for the Civil Services examination, was later found by her parents upon their return from the gym around 8 am and was tragically declared dead at a nearby hospital.
The chargesheet alleges that Meena raped the victim and then, following her resistance to his demand for money, strangled her with a mobile phone charging cable. After committing the heinous crime, he proceeded to steal cash, estimated to be between ₹2 and ₹2.5 lakh. To evade identification, he changed into the victim's brother's clothes before fleeing the scene.
Investigators quickly gathered crucial evidence, including fingerprints, palm prints, and thumb impressions from the crime scene, which were found to match those of Meena. Additionally, DNA samples collected from the victim's body were consistent with the accused. Police have compiled a list of 82 witnesses to meticulously establish the sequence of events. Meena was apprehended later the same evening at a hotel in Dwarka, thanks to CCTV footage showing him entering the residential complex at 6:30 am and departing at 7:20 am.
A senior police officer revealed that Meena had a significant gambling habit and had accumulated debts ranging from ₹5-7 lakh from online gaming applications. During his interrogation, Meena reportedly told investigators that his intention in entering the house was "just to ask for money" and that the crime "just happened." The victim's father is a senior IRS officer, and her mother is a dentist, highlighting the profound impact this tragedy has had on a prominent family. The detailed chargesheet now paves the way for the judicial process to seek justice for the young victim.
