India's Chip Dream Soars: "Made in India" Chips Set for Global Tech Stage!

India is rapidly emerging as a global player in the semiconductor industry, a development hailed by Electronics and IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw as a matter of "national pride." Speaking from the CG Semi OSAT facility in Sanand, Gujarat, Minister Vaishnaw announced that chips manufactured at this plant are poised for widespread use in automotive and industrial applications, with exports targeted for Japan, the United States, and Europe. This ambitious push underscores the nation's resolve to build even the most challenging industries domestically.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi further reinforced this vision, describing India's semiconductor drive as the natural progression of its electronics revolution. During the inauguration of the Sanand facility, PM Modi highlighted a decade of consistent progress, noting a staggering 33-fold increase in mobile phone production, a nearly sevenfold rise in overall electronics production, and an elevenfold surge in electronics exports since 2014. He articulated a clear roadmap: from products to components, and now to semiconductors, aiming to establish a complete chip ecosystem within India, encompassing design, fabrication, and packaging. The Prime Minister emphasized that India's youth would be instrumental in powering future innovations in AI, robotics, and next-gen technology with these "Made in India" chips.

A heartwarming highlight from the Sanand event was PM Modi's interaction with young women workers, many from remote and tribal areas, who have undergone specialized training in Malaysia to become integral to India's burgeoning chip ecosystem. Minister Vaishnaw noted that in under four years, the country has witnessed 12 semiconductor units under construction, three already in commercial production, the emergence of 24 deep tech design startups, and the training of 70,000 youth in design. The Prime Minister shared a video celebrating this "Yuva Shakti" and the spirit of skills, self-reliance, and women-led progress that is defining India's journey in this critical sector.
