Met Police Submit File in Mohamed Al Fayed Assault Probe

London authorities are moving forward in the investigation into allegations of sexual assault against the late Harrods owner, Mohamed Al Fayed. The Metropolitan Police have submitted a file of evidence against a suspect, a man in his 80s, to the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS).

The CPS will now meticulously review the evidence to determine whether charges will be brought against the individual.

The specific allegations involve two counts of indecent assault against two different women, both occurring in London.

While the CPS has not provided a timeline for their decision, this marks a significant development in a long-running and sensitive case.

The broader investigation, known as Operation Cornpoppy, was launched in November 2024 and delves into a wide array of sexual misconduct allegations against Al Fayed, dating from 1977 to 2014. These claims encompass sexual assault, rape, sexual exploitation, and human trafficking. Police have been in contact with at least 156 alleged victims directly, with 21 of them coming forward before Al Fayed's death in 2023 at the age of 94.

Operation Cornpoppy is also examining individuals who may have facilitated or enabled Al Fayed's alleged crimes. A spokesperson from the Fayed survivor group, "No One Above," has called for the Met Police to ensure evidence is secured on all perpetrators and co-conspirators.

They emphasize the importance of investigating how victims were allegedly recruited, screened, moved, harboured, and silenced.

The submission of this case file represents a critical step in a complex and extensive inquiry.
