C. Joseph Vijay, founder of TVK, was sworn in as Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, with nine ministers. Backed by Congress, CPI, CPI(M), VCK, and IUML, he faces a confidence vote by May 13.
C. Joseph Vijay, the founder of the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), was sworn in as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu this morning. The swearing-in ceremony was held at Nehru Indoor Stadium at 10 AM. Mr Vijay took the Oath of Office and Secrecy from State Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar. 9 Ministers were also sworn in with him. Those who took the oath as Cabinet Ministers were KG Arunraj, Aadhav Arjuna, N Anand, Selvi S Keerthana, and Dr TK Prabhu.

Rahul Gandhi and some personalities from the Tamil film industry attended the swearing-in ceremony. Mr Vijay, with the backing of Congress, CPI, CPI(M), VCK, and IUML, ensured that 120 MLAs-elect from the 234-member House came out in support of him. He became the first Chief Minister to not belong to either the DMK or the AIADMK to take office since 1967. In a Lok Bhavan press release, the Governor has asked Mr. Vijay to get a vote of confidence from the Assembly before Wednesday (May 13).

C. Joseph Vijay, the Chief of Tamizhaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK) and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, took the oath of office as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu today. He went to Fort. The Chief Minister's office is at St. George, where he signed the papers announcing his takeover. Addressing the gathering after taking the oath as a Chief Minister at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Chennai, Vijay called on the people to have faith in his Government and assured them that he would be able to facilitate fair and transparent governance to all.
In the files he signed to declare the Oath of Office at Secretariat, Chief Minister Vijay also signed the files to enable 200 units of free power to every family, the establishment of a special unit for women's safety, and a special unit to deal with drug smuggling.

The Assembly session will be held tomorrow for the swearing-in ceremony of the MLAs. Karuppaiah, who was elected from Sholavandan constituency, has been appointed as Pro-Tempore Speaker. He will conduct the swearing-in of all the elected MLAs and swear in the new MLAs, and then he will conduct the election of the permanent Speaker after swearing in all the elected MLAs. The newly elected Government will have to demonstrate a majority on or before Wednesday!
