In a notable moment for Pune politics, Ajit Pawar and Supriya Sule, cousins and senior leaders of the NCP, stepped onto the same dais for a joint manifesto launch ahead of Pune's civic polls, signaling a thaw after a bitter split in 2023. There are no permanent enemies in politics, Pawar later noted, adding that alliance talks are ongoing but campaign work keeps the team busy for now.
The manifesto lays out a sweeping agenda for the city: ensure tap water supply, ease traffic congestion, achieve pothole-free roads, maintain cleanliness, provide hi-tech healthcare services, curb pollution, and drive slum rehabilitation. It also promises free travel on PMPML buses and the metro, tax relief for homes up to 500 square feet, and free computer tablets for students.
Ajit Pawar stressed that despite ongoing discussions about seat-sharing and alliance arrangements, the two factions have cooperated in some areas and workers are pleased by the newfound cooperation. He noted that the campaign season is hectic and talks will intensify after the elections, with a clearer picture emerging once polling is underway.
