In a significant victory for India's fight against drug-related crimes, notorious drug trafficking kingpin Virender Singh Basoya was extradited from Dubai on Thursday (August 14, 2026). Home Minister Amit Shah lauded this as a crucial milestone in the country’s zero-tolerance policy against narcotics, emphasizing that the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) successfully secured Basoya's return from the UAE.
Shah stated that by tracing criminals through a comprehensive top-to-bottom and bottom-to-top approach, Indian agencies have once again demonstrated that drug traffickers cannot evade the long arm of the law, no matter where they hide. This serves as a strong message to all those involved in illegal drug activities.
Virender Singh Basoya is a key figure linked to a multi-crore international cocaine syndicate. He was reportedly involved in a staggering ₹6,000 crore drug case in Pune, part of a broader crackdown on syndicates that have historically exploited international borders to evade capture. Basoya was also closely associated with Sandeep Dhunia, the primary suspect in the ₹13,000-crore drug seizure case filed by the Delhi Police, with Dhunia having fled from Dubai to Pakistan.
The NCB had previously issued a Red Notice against Basoya, which is an international request for law enforcement worldwide to locate and provisionally arrest an individual pending extradition. His apprehension in Dubai and subsequent deportation back to India is a testament to the robust collaborative efforts between Indian authorities and international law enforcement agencies, reinforcing the government's unwavering commitment to dismantle drug networks.
