PM Modi Inaugurates Seva Teerth, Unveiling a New PMO Era
Modi unveils Seva Teerth and Kartavya Bhavan, consolidating key offices in a modern Delhi complex and signaling citizen-centric governance.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday inaugurated the Seva Teerth complex along with Kartavya Bhavan 1 and 2 in Delhi, calling the move a milestone in India's journey toward a developed, or Viksit, Bharat. The new facilities will house the Prime Minister's Office, the Cabinet Secretariat, and the National Security Council Secretariat, marking a consolidation that ends decades of operating out of separate locations. Previously, the South Block and North Block housed important ministries such as Defence, Home, and Finance, in addition to the PMO.
The structures are designed to reflect a shift away from colonial-era symbolism toward a citizen-centric governance ethos. The Prime Minister noted that the colonial mindset had lingered in the capital since Delhi’s rise as the capital in 1912, but the Seva Teerth and Kartavya Bhavan aim to realise the aspirations of the people. He stressed that the decisions made within these walls will serve the 140 crore citizens of the nation, rather than reflecting the will of a monarch.
Renaming the historic Race Course Road to Lok Kalyan Marg was described as more than a change of address; it symbolizes a broader transformation of power into service. The inauguration is framed as part of a broader effort to modernize governance and reinforce the government’s commitment to public service as a central pillar of the ongoing journey toward a more prosperous and participative India.
